Exhibit Openings: John Forrest at Metro Gallery
LDWT recently headed off to Australia to show you how Melbourne is indeed a vibrant and lively hub for the visual arts in today’s contemporary scene. Over the past two weeks, we attended a solo showing by Australian artist Paul White at Metro Gallery, an incredibly interesting contemporary art gallery based in Melbourne committed to exhibiting collectable Indigenous art, contemporary Australian art and work from promising emerging artists. We just loved Paul White’s detailed pencil on paper drawings and technique and this show was seriously impressive. One week later, we headed back to Metro Gallery for renowned artist John Forrest‘s solo exhibition “Hollywood Flesh” to get some shots of the opening night exhibition. This show runs until September 29th, 2012 and features a massive and iconic selection of paintings, illustrations and cartoons on the current state of show business ironically and cleverly blurring the lines between “reality” and “artifice”. John Forrest, artist and senior lecturer in Visual Arts at Deakin University, has been an exhibiting painter and is currently an author/illustrator of picture story books. He has also been a contributor of illustrations to Time Magazine Australia. More pictures after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

LIFE AS SEEN FROM ANOTHER PLANET: Ryan Heshka

..And he came from someplace else. Vancouver-based artist Ryan Heshka has long worked in the dream-like world of his own fanciful creation. Acutely informed by the imagery drawn from the Golden Age of science fiction, Heshka’s paintings feature a strong element of dark humor that is, unintentionally and efficiently, multi-faceted, vigorous, vibrant and sharp in color. Ryan Heshka is an amazing artist and one of our personal favorites, no need to hide it. His works, executed in a style which is incredibly unique, honest and unpretentious, have been featured in Vanity Fair, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, just to name a few, and exhibited all across the continent and Europe. We had the great pleasure of interviewing Ryan Heshka as he prepares to open up his first European solo show at the Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea in Milan, Italy. The exhibition will open on Thursday, March 22, 2012, so make sure to drop by and say hi to Ryan. Otherwise take a peek at some of the works from the upcoming show , here on Love and Dishwasher Tablets, and read our interview after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
Get The Keys And Go: A Mixtape
Leap year, what a funny concept. Seconds turning into hours that we can accumulate and use like a bonus. On second thoughts, though, what is really striking is the idea that it can become a way of turning time itself to your strength, travelling through (e)motions, making every day that extra day of the year. C’mon. Do something. “Get The Keys And Go” is the feeling of the motor running, of that bond you discover again, of that secret smile you decide to share. It’s our march mixtape.
